Dodge City Community College Student Activity Center is a true testament to the Building Solutions notion of “doing whatever it takes to make the job right—from the start” and focusing the right talent at the right time.

Our rendering and drafting capabilities flourished during the course of the designing stages and throughout phase one of construction to help the college and community grasp all the functions and needs of this activity center. As Design Build Construction Manager, we worked with the college to design a facility that would meet not only the colleges needs but also the communities too.

It is a challenge on any project to balance the budget with the many desires, but especially difficult on this project because the needs of the college are always greater than the funding sources. The DC3 Student Activity Center project is a great example of maximizing budget available to create a unique, yet very effective facility.

The 41,548 square foot, concrete Monolithic Dome serves students and faculty as an activity center, hosting a basketball and volleyball court, locker rooms, training rooms, running track, and future wellness center , student lounge and additional classrooms. Not only will the activity center be beneficial to the college, but the community as well.

The FEMA rated facility serves as a community shelter before and after a tornado, as well as an alternative hospital triage center. In addition, monolithic domes have very practical money saving capabilities in upfront equipment costs, lower day-to-day energy costs and reduced maintenance cost.
